Numerical Analysis of Optimal Control Policies for Queueing Systems with Heterogeneous Servers

چکیده
The problem of optimal jobs assignment to heterogeneous servers arises in many applications. The problem of optimal jobs assignment for two heterogeneous servers with respect to minimization of long run average mean number jobs in the system was considered in [1], where it was shown that the policy, which minimizes the number of customers in the system, has a threshold property and consists in using the fastest server if necessary. For the multi-server system, these properties of an optimal policy were generalized in [2]. In the talk, an algorithm is proposed which gives the possibility to find optimal threshold levels for different values of system parameters and investigate their behavior. Some numerical examples are also included.

Controlled Queueing Systems with Heterogeneous Servers
Many real-life phenomena, such as computer systems, communication networks, manufacturing systems, supermarket checkout lines as well as structural military systems can be represented by means of queueing models. Looking at queueing models, a controller may considerably improve the system’s performance by reducing queue lengths, or increasing the throughput, or diminishing the overhead, whereas...
متن کاملMulti-Objective Lead Time Control in Multistage Assembly Systems (TECHNICAL NOTE)
In this paper we develop a multi-objective model to optimally control the lead time of a multistage assembly system. The multistage assembly system is modeled as an open queueing network, whose service stations represent manufacturing or assembly operations. The arrival processes of the individual parts of the product, which should be assembled to each other in assembly stations, are assumed to...
متن کاملOptimal power allocation among multiple heterogeneous servers in a data center
In a data center for cloud computing, there are typically multiple heterogeneous servers which provide services in different application domains. For such heterogeneous servers in a data center with different configurations for diversified applications and certain available power, there is a problem of allocating the power to the servers, such that the overall quality of service of the servers ...
متن کاملServer Assignment Policies for Maximizing the Steady-State Throughput of Finite Queueing Systems
For a system of nite queues, we study how servers should be assigned dynamically to stations in order to obtain optimal (or near-optimal) long-run average throughput. We assume that travel times between di erent service facilities are negligible, that each server can only work on one job at a time, and that several servers can work together on one job. We show that when the service rates depend...
متن کاملScheduling Control for Queueing Systems with Many Servers: Asymptotic Optimality in Heavy Traffic1 by Rami Atar
A multiclass queueing system is considered, with heterogeneous service stations, each consisting of many servers with identical capabilities. An optimal control problem is formulated, where the control corresponds to scheduling and routing, and the cost is a cumulative discounted functional of the system’s state. We examine two versions of the problem: “nonpreemptive,” where service is uninterr...
